The National Certificate in occupationally directed ETD practices is a mid-level qualification in the field of training and development. It is a valuable starting point for those who have been practicing in the field without formal accreditation and it articulates seamlessly into the National Diploma with the same name.
This qualification also provides learners with access to the Chartall Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree.
The national certificate addresses general competencies across five key ETD roles. This then provides an opportunity for learners to specialise in any one area in line with their interests. This specialisation is done by choosing the electives from the ares of interest.
These five ETD areas are:
- Design and develop learning programmes;
- Facilitate and evaluate learning;
- Provide learning support to learners and organisations;
- Engage in and promote assessment practices;
- Conduct skills development facilitation.
This qualification and the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) delivery mode is specifically for those employees who have extensive experience in an education, training and/or developmental role. Learners enrolling for RPL must be able to demonstrate a wide range of competencies in the ETD field relating to the five key subject areas listed above.
This qualification will also be useful for:
- Learning facilitators
- Assessors
- Learner and learning supporters
- Skills development facilitators
This qualification is offered through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). (Note that face-to-face training is also offered at selected workplaces. You can request face-to-face training here. ) There is also an online delivery option available and you can get information about this on the website.
Only learners who have been working in ETD role for over five years should apply to complete the qualification through RPL. This is because there is no training and no training materials with the RPL option. You simply complete the assessment. Learners with less workplace experience should rather complete the qualification through the online learning delivery method.
For RPL enrolment:
RPL candidates should have worked in all of the ETD roles listed above. This will provide you with sufficient workplace experience to complete the RPL successfully. Candidates should also, ideally, be employed in an ETD environment, as this will give you access to naturally occurring evidence to help you complete your assessments. RPL candidates to note that there is no training offered with the RPL enrolment option and all assessments are completed using your existing learning as the basis for your assessments. We do, however, recommend a textbook to assist you and you will have support from an online RPL adviser and e-coach.
All RPL candidates must EITHER have completed the assessor (115753) unit standard OR must enrol to complete it separately as this cannot be RPL-ed. (Online options, at an additional cost, are available for the Skills Assessor unit standard.)
Learners will complete their RPL assessment electronically, so you will need a PC or tablet with sufficient internet connectivity to download and upload the assessments.
