The National Certificate in Occupationally-Directed Education, Training and Development Practices (ODETDP) is a mid-level qualification in the field of training and development. It is a valuable starting point for those who have been practicing in the field without formal accreditation and it articulates seamlessly into the National Diploma with the same name.
This qualification also provides learners with access to the Chartall Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree.
The national certificate is registered at level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework and it addresses general competencies across five key ETD roles. This then provides an opportunity for learners to specialise in any one area in line with their interests. This specialisation is done by choosing the electives from the areas of interest.
These five ETD areas are:
- Design and develop learning programmes;
- Facilitate and evaluate learning;
- Provide learning support to learners and organisations;
- Engage in and promote assessment practices;
- Conduct skills development facilitation.
This qualification, and the online delivery mode, has been designed specifically for those individuals who wish to build on their subject matter knowledge in any discipline in order to enter the field of training and development as a career.
This qualification will also be useful for:
- Learning facilitators
- Assessors
- Learner and learning supporters
- Skills development facilitators
Learners must have a PC or tablet (or smart phone, but this could be too small for effective learning) with sufficient internet connectivity to download the online learning materials and view videos, as well as attend the live e-tutorials. You should also ideally be employed in a junior management role so that you can relate your learning practically to your workplace (although this is not essential and many complete successfully while not working).
Access to real work examples of materials, policies and documents created in the ETD space will be advantageous as it will shorten the time to completion and provide supporting evidence of competency.
In addition, learners need to be proficient in English at National Senior Certificate level.
A good level of computer literacy is also an advantage.
A learner must EITHER have completed the assessor (115753) unit standard OR must enrol to complete it separately. (Online options, at an additional cost, are available for the Skills Assessor unit standard.)
